We are excited and honored to announce that as of Thursday, December 16th, 2021, Kimberly Smith is now an officer of our firm. Kim has been a member of Burkett, Burkett and Burkett CPAs, P.A. since May 2000, working at our Rock Hill branch. Through the years, Kim has shown herself to be an invaluable member of our team and has grown professionally as the firm has grown over the past 20+ years.

We congratulate Kim, our new Executive Vice President, and look forward to having her assume her new role. We know that Kim will be instrumental in the future growth and success of our firm and will help lead us into 2022 and beyond. Congratulations Kim on a well-deserved milestone!

About Kim

Kimberly (Kim) Smith is a CPA who has been with Burkett, Burkett and Burkett CPAs, P.A. since May 2000. She assists individuals, corporations, partnerships, not-for-profit organizations, and more with audits, compilations, and reviews. Kim is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants, and South Carolina Certified Public Accountants – Catawba Chapter.

Kim is a native of Fort Mill, SC who attended Winthrop University, graduating Summa Cum Laude in May 1998 with a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting. She earned her MBA at Winthrop University in May 2000 and became a CPA in South Carolina in September 2002. Kim is married to Eddie Smith, with whom she has two children: Macee and Tre.

In the Fall of 2020, during the thick of the pandemic, Burkett staff led five 3-day workshops with Clemson University as part of their continuing education series for tax and finance professionals.

Even though our Clemson Series has never been presented virtually before, the courses were a big success with over 1,100 attendees! Burkett staff presented on topics including ethics, the IRS, corporate tax, retirement & investment, and much more.

The Clemson Series was presented in conjunction with SCDOR, Winters-Smith Associates, Burkett Financial Services, and the staff at the Clemson Tax School. Thank you to everyone who participated and made these workshops possible.

Every year, Burkett CPAs sponsors the “Women’s Night In” event, presented by Lexington Medical Center. This event celebrates breast cancer survivors and raises money for the Crystal Smith Breast Cancer Fund, which helps provide essential items and services for breast cancer patients. We participate to honor the memory of Jeannie Burkett.

This year, the event is being moved online due to COVID-19 concerns. However, there will still be

• a live video event on Thursday, October 1st at 7PM, as well as
• a silent auction beginning on Friday, September 25th.

Participants can bid in a silent auction, create a photo tribute in honor or memory of a loved one, or make a direct donation to Women’s Night In.

The silent auction starts September 25th and the winners are announced October 2nd. There are always fantastic prizes up for grabs!

We would like to encourage all Burkett employees and associates to participate, as this event supports a cause that matters dearly to us. On September 1st, Burkett, Burkett & Burkett CPAs commemorated its 44th anniversary. The past 44 years have brought growth, change, and plenty of challenges, but each member of the Burkett family has contributed to its long success.

Here are some special words from our founder, Donny Burkett:

Today is Burkett, Burkett & Burkett’s anniversary. Hard to believe that we started the firm 44 years ago today. It’s been a wonderful ride with many outstanding staff members.

This firm has far exceeded my expectations and my dreams due to our staff. Thanks to our current staff and even the ones that left to pursue other opportunities.

My life is richer because you were part of the Burkett family. What makes it special is we’re able to have a family firm with Ronny and Jimmy. Something I’ll always cherish! Although Jimmy left years ago to fulfill his dream and teach at University of South Carolina, he was an integral part of our success and remains so today, as he taught many of our current staff. And yes, even the evil twin Ronny has contributed to our success. One of my favorite scriptures is Ecclesiastes 4:9-10: ” Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other person can reach out and help.” This sums up our relationship of the last 68 years.

We’d like to thank all clients, team members, and friends of Burkett for helping us achieve 44 years as a business. Here’s to the next 44!
