SC Department of Revenue Announces Tax Free Holiday August 4-6
The South Carolina Department of Revenue has announced that the annual sales tax holiday will take place beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2023 through midnight Sunday, August 6, 2023. During the tax-free weekend, shoppers may purchase back-to‐school and other essential items without paying the state’s 6% sales tax and any applicable local taxes.
The sales tax holiday applies to eligible items that are purchased either online or in-store, for use by any age (from infant to senior citizen), to new or used items, and to items of any dollar amount. Items exempt from tax include school supplies used for school assignments, clothing and clothing accessories, footwear, computers and computer software, printers and printer supplies, and certain bed and bath items. Items that are not exempt include digital cameras, smartphones, jewelry, cosmetics, eyewear, wallets, watches, and furniture. (from South Carolina Information Letter No. 23-7, 07/05/2023)
