In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day, we present “Remembering John Henry”

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day, Burkett CPAs is exhibiting “Remembering John Henry” from the Beloved: Legacy of Slavery collection during the week of January 21. You are invited to stop by our office to view the portrait.

“Remembering John Henry” was drawn by South Carolina artist, Mary Burkett, from a photograph by George N. Barnard, circa 1861. It depicts a young slave boy from Charleston, South Carolina, whose name and lineage are lost to history. The title, “Remembering John Henry “, and accompanying narrative of the same name is in honor of an elderly black man from Mary’s childhood.
